This kindle book is an excellent resource for a student who wants to read ancient texts without buying expensive print editions. While the english translation is not the most grammatically accurate, it is still helpful and I understand that it was included (as opposed to another, more exact) translation because it is in the public domain, which allows the publishers to keep the price of this ebook low (which I appreciate). The vocabulary, while a little hard to sift through (it appears as a block of text), it is useful and more easily accessible than a dictionary. I recommend also buying the $1.99 digital latin dictionary for kindle, and setting it as your default dictionary while reading this Latin text. Simply tap and hold on a word, and the definition pops up (warning: sometimes the dictionary will make mistakes with inflected words that are spelled the same, e.g. sidere (infinitive of sido) and sidere (ablative singulare of sidus, sideris, star). The digital dictionary and text combined make it possible to read the text fluently, rather than having to stop every few words to page through a dictionary. For the student learning to read Latin without puzzle-piece translation, this is invaluable. The next time I need a Latin text, I will look for the SPQR study guide first.Of course, one could always download the text for free from the Latin Library, but it is hard to format correctly for kindle, often times the kindle file converter will mess up the letters of the words, and it sometimes has a lot of trouble integrating with the dictionary. It's well worth it to just buy the cheap SPQR study guides, with the easily accessible english translation, easily accessible vocabulary, and easy dictionary integration.
